Beekeeping Mentor Program

Students

Colorado beekeeper and teacher, Don Studinski, is offering beekeeper mentoring at the Living Systems Institute (LSI).  This comprehensive study in the art and science of beekeeping is a year-round program.  Students will participate in all aspects of beekeeping throughout the year from over-wintered early-Spring inspections (which may include dead-out housekeeping) to over-wintering preparation at season's end (which will include kitchen experience making bee tea and bee candy).  Detailed study of the hows and whys of Langstroth, Warre and top-bar hives (TBH) will be covered.  Extensive email discussions (including photos) are also included where students will gather information about what to be doing "now" nearly every week of the year.  Students find this program valuable even when remote.  Successful students have participated from Florida, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Students must provide their own beekeeping suit which should cover their entire body, including gloves and ankle protection which will prevent bees from crawling up shirt sleeves or pant legs.  Two layers is suggested.  Students must sign a contract acknowledging liability waiver.  No Honeybee Keep employee carries an epi pen.  You are responsible for taking care of you at all times.  This program is intended for adults.  Mentoring will typically be on Saturdays and will include very early morning activities and dusk activities from time-to-time.  Random days and times will also be included as we learn to work with the weather and with swarms, neither of which can be planned exactly ahead-of-time.  Students are encouraged to bring cameras.

This unique opportunity is available for selected students.  This is not an open enrollment. Multiple students may be present at any single event, but your individualized questions will be answered.  The fee is $500.00 per year ($400 for remote students), there are no refunds (and no prorating) at this bargain price for an entire year of hands-on practical education.  New students may be selected at any time during the year, and graduating students may exit any time during the year.
